The Spanish are invading Oz with horror flicks galore when the 11th Spanish Film Festival hits Australian hot spots throughout May: Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and the least, er, most exciting capital in the world ... Canberra. Spaniards obviously missed the memo.

[REC], the horror thriller that has been all the buzz (some are touting it as one of the scariest movies EVER), will finally be seen on Aussie screens, thanks to the traveling film festival.

The Spanish festival features - count 'em - 50 features, shorts and documentaries that event director Natalia Ortiz thinks are the cream of the crop."The filmmakers in this year's program have produced vibrant, polemical, shocking, experimental, artful, and beautiful films", Ortiz said.

The closing night marks the Australian premiere of JA Bayona's spooky story The Orphanage, produced by Guillermo del Toro. Horror fans couldn't ask for more. Opening night is 14 May, with a dose of Spanish-made films set to cover a vast spectrum of genres, from contemporary dramas to children's comedies. Looks like there's a little something for everyone.

The Spanish Film Festival is on 14-25 May at Palace Cinema Como and Palace Westgarth cinemas. For more information check out the official site.
