Editorial Review

27-28 September 2008
Hamer Hall - The Arts Centre
100 St Kilda Rd, Melbourne

In the past, he has told pub jokes in the vein of Geoffrey Chaucer, found hidden satanic verse in The Magic Roundabout theme, and rallied for Britain's anthem to be changed from God Save the Queen to Zippity Doo Da - as performed by Portishead. He is Bill Bailey - part comedian, part musician, part troll and all-round entertainer. He is an axe-wielding guitar god, a maestro pianist, a sharp-eyed purveyor of society, and has the features to make any self-respecting druid stroke their beard in envy.

Australia loves Bailey: since the '90s he has made five visits here, his last two Bewilderness and Part Troll converting more into his legionary fan base. Many signed up through an admiration of his television work, in particular his turn as the hapless Mannie in the hit comedy Black Books, or as Bilbo Bagshot, the comic-store owner in cult show Spaced.

In August he packs his synths, strings and hair care products for his sixth tour of Australia, Tinselworm, an all-new show packed with Bailey's renowned musical lunacy and droll wit. Tinselworm has been tipped as one of his best yet back home in England, so fans should secure themselves a ticket to see the master at work.
